Wesensbeurteilung
Overview
What it is
Wesensbeurteilung is not a medical disease, but rather a standardized temperament and character evaluation used to assess a dog's behavior. It evaluates traits like self-confidence, stability, and social compatibility in everyday situations. This assessment is commonly required by breeding clubs to ensure only mentally sound dogs are bred.
How it presents
There are no physical symptoms to observe because this is a behavioral test rather than an illness. The evaluation is typically conducted when the dog is a young adult, usually starting around 9 to 12 months of age.
Treatment
No medical treatment is necessary as this is a standard evaluation. Owners typically pay a one-time testing fee to the organizing breed club, which generally ranges from 50 to 100 EUR.
