Create a breeder account and tell us about your breeding: breeds, location and how you work.
Upload your documents
ID, official permit (if required for you), club membership, photos of your breeding environment and, depending on the breed, health records of your parent dogs.
We review them
Your documents are reviewed with AI support. If anything doesn't add up, our team takes a second look and gets back to you.
Profile live, applications arrive
Once you're approved, your profile goes live. Buyers find you by breed and region and apply to you directly.

What we check
We check documents. Five proofs add up to one picture, and each of them is later visible on your profile.
Identity
An official ID document shows there's a real, named person behind the profile. No anonymous listings.
Official permit, where one is required
If your country requires a permit or registration to breed dogs — in Germany, the §11 TierSchG permit — you upload it. Where none is required, the step doesn't apply.
Club membership
Membership of a breed club is one signal among several, not the bar. Breeding outside a club doesn't make you worse — and a membership on its own says nothing about the breeding.
Photos of your breeding environment
Pictures of where your dogs actually live. They show buyers the everyday reality no text can describe.
Parent-dog health records, by breed
We ask for the examinations that are customary or club-mandated for your breed, such as hips, elbows, eyes or hereditary conditions. We read out the results, check them for consistency with the dog profile and show them on your profile.
For clarity: this is a document check. It says nothing about the health of an individual puppy, and we make no promises about it. What you have documented, we make visible.

What makes HonestDog different from other dog listing sites?
We don't publish a profile without reviewing it first. Identity, official permit, club membership and photos of the breeding environment are reviewed with AI support, and by our team whenever something doesn't add up. That lowers the risk of buyers ending up at a puppy mill — and it makes your work visible instead of letting it disappear between anonymous ads. On the buyer side, we help people with their questions so they reach you prepared. Whatever documents and information you provide about parent dogs and puppies, we show on your profile. We don't list dogs that carry Qualzucht traits — features bred to harmful extremes — themselves.
Where does HonestDog stand on Qualzucht?
Qualzucht traits — features bred to harmful extremes — can severely limit a dog's quality of life. The higher the breed-typical risk, the more depends on the breeder: anyone who screens consistently and selects for health and function lowers exactly those risks. We don't list dogs that carry those traits themselves. For a small number of breeds this can only be assessed reliably with specialist veterinary diagnostics — a depth of checking our verification process can't currently provide. For now, we don't list puppies of those breeds. That's a statement about what we're able to verify, not about the breeders of those breeds. We're working with breeders and experts to change it.
How does HonestDog choose which breeders to approve?
In several stages. First the documents: proof of identity and, depending on country and type of breeding, an official permit or club membership, plus photos of the breeding environment. Checks are AI-assisted, with our team reviewing anything inconsistent. You also answer questions about your breeding practice and agree to our standards for healthy breeding. Depending on the breed, we ask for health records of your parent dogs; we read out the results, check them for consistency with the dog profile and show them on your profile. After that, community feedback counts, and we follow up on reports. The goal is a real, document-checked breeder behind every profile.
Does HonestDog sell puppies itself?
No. We don't sell dogs and we're not a party to any sale. HonestDog provides the platform where breeders and puppy buyers can find each other — everything after that is between you. If buyers want it, we help them choose a breed and answer their questions along the way.
What does HonestDog cost for breeders?
Joining is free. Creating your profile, getting it verified and receiving applications from buyers costs you nothing — no subscription, no sign-up fee, nothing upfront.
How long does verification take?
Usually a few days. How fast it goes depends mostly on how complete and legible your documents are: if everything is there and consistent, it moves quickly; if something is missing or doesn't line up, we'll come back to you and it takes longer. We deliberately don't promise a fixed turnaround — we'd rather review properly.
