Pulmonary adenomatosis
Also known as: Canine pulmonary adenomatosis · Lungenadenomatose beim Hund · Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma in dogs · Pulmonary alveolar adenomatosis
Overview
What it is
Pulmonary adenomatosis is a rare, cancerous lung condition in dogs similar to bronchioloalveolar carcinoma, where cells in the deep lung tissues multiply uncontrollably. This abnormal cell growth gradually replaces healthy, functional lung tissue, severely reducing the dog's ability to absorb oxygen.
How it presents
Symptoms typically appear in older dogs and include a persistent cough, difficulty breathing, tiring easily during exercise, and weight loss.
Treatment
This condition is incurable, so treatment is palliative and focuses on keeping the dog comfortable. Supportive care, including anti-inflammatory medications and oxygen therapy, typically costs between 1,000 and 4,000 EUR.
