Imerslund-Gräsbeck syndrome(IGS)
Also known as: Cobalamin Malabsorption · Selective Cobalamin Malabsorption · Vitamin B12 Malabsorption · Imerslund-Graesbeck-Syndrom · Imerslund-Graesbeck Syndrome · …
Overview
What it is
Imerslund-Gräsbeck syndrome is an inherited metabolic disorder where a dog's digestive system cannot absorb vitamin B12 from food. This inability to absorb the vitamin leads to a chronic deficiency, which impairs normal red blood cell production in the bone marrow and disrupts the nervous system.
How it presents
Symptoms usually become noticeable in puppies between 8 and 12 weeks of age. Owners may observe poor growth, a lack of appetite, persistent lethargy, and weakness due to anemia, which is a low red blood cell count.
Treatment
While the underlying genetic defect cannot be cured, the condition is highly treatable with lifelong vitamin B12 injections. Managing this condition over a dog's lifetime typically costs between 1,000 and 3,000 EUR.
How it's tested
Imerslund-Gräsbeck-Syndrom (IGS) DNA-Test(IGS)
Primary testDNA testEin DNA-Test, der die spezifische Mutation im CUBN- oder AMN-Gen nachweist, welche für die gestörte Vitamin-B12-Aufnahme verantwortlich ist.
Issuing body: Labogen
Result scheme: Clear/Carrier/Affected
IGS (Imerslund-Gräsbeck-Syndrom) DNA-Test(IGS (CUBN))
Primary testDNA testEin Gentest, der die Mutation im CUBN-Gen nachweist, um die erbliche Form der intestinalen Cobalamin-Malabsorption (Imerslund-Gräsbeck-Syndrom) zu diagnostizieren.
Issuing body: Labogen
Result scheme: Clear/Carrier/Affected
Intestinale Cobalamin-Malabsorption (IGS) Gentest(IGS (AMN))
Primary testDNA testEin DNA-Test zum Nachweis der Mutation im AMN-Gen, die für die erbliche Vitamin-B12-Malabsorption verantwortlich ist.
Issuing body: Labogen
Result scheme: Clear/Carrier/Affected
