Choroid plexus tumour(CPT)
Also known as: Choroid plexus papilloma · Choroid plexus carcinoma · Choroidplexus-Tumor · Choroid Plexus Tumor
Overview
What it is
A choroid plexus tumor is a type of brain tumor that develops in the tissue responsible for producing cerebrospinal fluid, which is the protective fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. As the tumor grows, it blocks the normal flow of this fluid, leading to a buildup of pressure inside the skull. This increased pressure can damage surrounding brain tissue and disrupt normal neurological function.
How it presents
Symptoms typically appear in middle-aged to older dogs and often include seizures, noticeable behavioral changes, disorientation, or a loss of coordination.
Treatment
Treatment is complex and may involve specialized brain surgery, radiation therapy, or medication to manage pressure, with costs ranging from 3,000 to 12,000 EUR. While surgery is a major one-time event, ongoing palliative care is often required as the condition is frequently difficult to cure completely.
