Vaccination schedule in Germany (StIKo Vet)
Core vaccinations
Germany's standing veterinary vaccination commission (StIKo Vet) recommends core vaccinations against distemper, hepatitis (HCC), parvovirus and rabies for every dog, regardless of lifestyle or region.
Puppy primary series
Puppies typically receive their primary series at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age, followed by a booster at around 15 months. The exact timing depends on the vaccine used.

Frequently asked questions
How does a puppy vaccination schedule work?
Puppies usually get their primary series at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age, often followed by a first booster after about a year. Your vet sets the exact timing based on the vaccine and your dog's situation.
What does a puppy vaccination plan cost?
In Germany a single vaccination usually costs between 40 and 80 euros; the full primary series often runs 100 to 200 euros. Ask your vet for a specific quote.
When should my puppy get its first vaccination?
The first core vaccination is usually given from 8 weeks of age. Reputable breeders typically hand puppies over already having had a first shot.
How often are boosters needed?
After the primary series there's usually a booster after one year, then every one to three years depending on the vaccine. Rabies boosters follow the schedule of the specific vaccine used.
Are vaccinations mandatory in Germany?
There's no blanket requirement, but a valid rabies vaccination is required for travel abroad, and many boarding kennels and dog schools ask for certain vaccinations. StIKo Vet recommends the core vaccinations for all dogs.
