The scale alone tells you little — body condition is what matters. The Body Condition Score rates how well you can feel and see the ribs, waist and belly line, so you can spot over- or underweight early, whatever the breed.
The calculator estimates an ideal-weight range and a matching feeding plan from weight, size and an optional BCS. It doesn't replace a veterinary exam — for clear over- or underweight, your vet is the right place to go.

How do I know my dog's ideal weight?
At an ideal weight you should be able to feel the ribs under a thin layer of fat, but not see them. From above there's a visible waist, and from the side a slight tuck to the belly. Fixed kg figures are only a rough guide, because they vary a lot within a breed.
What is the Body Condition Score (BCS)?
The Body Condition Score is a veterinary scale (usually 1–9 or 1–5) that rates body condition by look and feel. 3 out of 5 is considered ideal. It's more meaningful than weight alone because it accounts for build.
My dog is too thin — what should I do?
Visible ribs, a strongly tucked belly and low energy can point to being underweight. Increase the food amount gently and watch how things develop. If your dog still doesn't gain or seems listless, have a vet check the cause.
My dog is overweight — what should I do?
If the ribs are hard to feel and there's no waist, your dog is probably overweight. Cut back on treats, weigh out the food and increase exercise gradually. For clear obesity, a vet-guided diet plan is the safest route.
