Wir haben unsere fünfjährige Yorkie-Poo-Hündin Locky (2,5 kg) vor einigen Jahren von meiner Mutter übernommen, da sie sich gesundheitlich nicht mehr um sie kümmern konnte. Locky ist im Alltag eine extrem schlaue und lernwillige Begleiterin. Sie liebt das Clickertraining über alles und zeigt stolz ihre gelernten Kunststücke. Auch Menschen gegenüber ist sie absolut zutraulich und freundlich.
Hinter dem süßen Aussehen versteckt sich jedoch ein echtes Ego. Locky hält sich für eine kleine Hundegöttin und will überall die Erste sein. Wenn wir in einer Gruppe Fahrrad fahren und sie vorne in ihrem Körbchen sitzt, fängt sie schrecklich an zu jaulen und zu quietschen, sobald jemand anderes vor uns fährt. Erst wenn wir die Kolonne anführen, gibt sie Ruhe.
Auch im Umgang mit anderen Hunden zeigt sich ihr herrisches Wesen. Wenn wir bei meinem Sohn zu Besuch sind, der ebenfalls einen älteren Yorkshire-Pudel-Mix hat, übernimmt Locky sofort das Kommando. Sie bestimmt frech, wer wo liegen darf, und versucht sogar, meinen Sohn an der Tür mit Drohgebärden zuerst zu begrüßen. Man darf diese kleinen Hunde trotz ihrer Größe bei der Erziehung keinesfalls unterschätzen!

Unsere Yorkie-Poo-Hündin Molly lebt bei uns in einem bunten Rudel zusammen mit einem Schäferhund-Mix und einem Dummy-Mix. Viele Leute denken ja, dass diese kleinen Designer-Mischlinge reine Schoßhündchen für ältere Damen sind, aber das stimmt überhaupt nicht. Molly ist ein vollwertiger, sehr aktiver Hund, der körperlich und geistig ausgelastet werden will.
Da wir berufstätig sind, mussten wir von Anfang an trainieren, dass die Hunde auch mal alleine bleiben können. Das klappt bei Molly hervorragend, allerdings gehen wir dafür auch morgens um 5 Uhr bereits die erste große Runde von etwa 45 Minuten, damit sie ausgepowert ist. Sie ist sehr anpassungsfähig und verträgt sich gut mit unserem restlichen Rudel.
Man sollte sich vor der Anschaffung im Klaren sein, dass der Yorkiepoo ein Überraschungspaket ist. Man weiß nie genau, welche Eigenschaften von Yorkshire Terrier oder Pudel durchschlagen. Bei Molly ist es eine tolle Mischung aus der Intelligenz des Pudels und der Robustheit des Terriers, aber man muss konsequent bleiben, damit sie einem nicht auf der Nase herumtanzt.

Ich habe mich damals für einen Yorkiepoo entschieden, weil ich einen kleinen, intelligenten Hund gesucht habe, der nicht haart. Das Fell ist tatsächlich super pflegeleicht und für meine leichte Allergie ideal, auch wenn man es regelmäßig bürsten und scheren lassen muss, damit es nicht verfilzt.
Was ich allerdings völlig unterschätzt habe, ist das Temperament. Mein Rüde ist kein gemütlicher Schoßhund, sondern ein frecher, unerschrockener Wirbelwind. Der Terrier-Anteil schlägt voll durch: Er ist extrem wachsam, neigt schnell zum Kläffen, wenn Besuch kommt, und hat seinen ganz eigenen, sturen Kopf. Wenn man da in der Erziehung nicht von Tag eins an konsequent Grenzen setzt, übernimmt er sofort die Kontrolle über die Wohnung.
Er braucht täglich viel Beschäftigung, am liebsten Nasenarbeit oder kleine Intelligenzspiele, sonst sucht er sich selbst eine Aufgabe – und das ist meistens das Melden von jedem Geräusch im Treppenhaus. Für Anfänger ist die Rasse durchaus geeignet, aber nur, wenn man bereit ist, eine Hundeschule zu besuchen und sich nicht von den Knopfaugen um den Finger wickeln zu lassen.
