Wir haben unsere Segugio Maremmano-Mix-Hündin mit etwa sechs Monaten aus dem italienischen Tierschutz übernommen. Sie stammte von einem Jäger und wurde dort aussortiert, weil sie nicht schussfest war. Anfangs war sie extrem unsicher, kannte rein gar nichts und wir mussten wirklich bei Null anfangen – vom Treppensteigen bis zur Stubenreinheit.
Im Haus ist sie mittlerweile ein Traum: Sie verhält sich absolut ruhig und fast unauffällig, wie es oft über Jagdhunde geschrieben wird. Draußen erwacht jedoch die Vollblut-Jägerin in ihr. Ohne Schleppleine geht bei uns im Wald gar nichts, da ihr Jagdtrieb enorm ist.
Um sie geistig auszulasten und ihr Selbstvertrauen zu stärken, machen wir leidenschaftlich Mantrailing. Dabei arbeitet sie unglaublich konzentriert und besonnen. Sie ist kein einfacher Anfängerhund, aber mit viel Geduld und Konsequenz haben wir eine tolle Bindung aufgebaut.

Als wir unsere Hündin über die Hundehilfe Toskana adoptiert haben, mussten wir uns erst einmal an die rassetypischen Eigenheiten gewöhnen. Sie schlägt auch nicht an, wenn Besuch kommt, da das Bewachen überhaupt nicht in ihrer Natur liegt.
Allerdings darf man den Spurlaut nicht unterschätzen – wenn sie draußen eine Fährte aufnimmt, stößt sie ein lautes, fast schon klagendes Jaulen aus, das durch Mark und Bein geht. Zudem friert sie im Winter schnell, weshalb sie bei Kälte definitiv einen Hundemantel tragen muss.
Ein sehr ernstes Thema bei Hunden aus dem italienischen Tierschutz ist die Gesundheit. Unsere Hündin kam mit Leishmaniose zu uns. Das erfordert regelmäßige Blut- und Urintests beim Tierarzt sowie eine dauerhafte medizinische Überwachung. Man muss sich vor der Anschaffung bewusst sein, dass man hier ein chronisch krankes Tier adoptieren könnte, das besondere Fürsorge braucht.
