History
The Mudi comes from Hungary and its history goes back to the 19th century. It was bred by Hungarian farmers and shepherds as a herding and guard dog and can still be found in this role on Hungarian farms today. The exact origins of the breed are unclear, but it is believed to have arisen from crossing Hungarian herding dogs with other shepherd and sheepdogs. The Mudi was officially recognized as a separate breed in 1936 and, despite its many talents, is still a fairly rare breed, even in its native Hungary.

Heute sind wir ein tolles Team, aber der Weg dorthin war harte Arbeit. Man muss lernen, mit ihrer Bellfreudigkeit und ihrer Skepsis gegenüber Fremden umzugehen. Wenn man ihr aber eine echte Aufgabe gibt – wie bei uns das Agility oder die Arbeit an den Schafen –, ist sie voll in ihrem Element und zeigt eine beeindruckende, loyale Arbeitsleistung.

Man darf die angeborene Wachsamkeit und das misstrauische Beobachten von Umweltreizen nicht unterschätzen, aber mit der nötigen Geduld ist sie ein wundervoller, treuer Begleiter geworden.
