History
The history of Kuvasz goes back a long way. Although the exact origin is unclear, it is believed that the Kuvasz's ancestors came to the Carpathian Basin with nomadic tribes from Central Asia. The breed developed in Hungary, where it was used to protect and herd livestock. The name Kuvasz comes from the Turkish word "kawasz", which means "armed guard" means. Wir haben dort zwar mehrmals die Begleithundeprüfung und den Team-Test erfolgreich gemeistert, aber um ehrlich zu sein: Großen Gefallen hat meine Dicke daran nie gefunden. Diese typischen Hundeplatz-Übungen sind einfach nicht ihre Welt.
Sie ist vollauf damit zufrieden und glücklich, wenn sie einfach nur unser Haus, das Grundstück und ihre Familie bewachen darf. Zwischendurch machen wir zwar immer mal wieder ein bisschen Kopfarbeit zur Auslastung, aber auch das wird ihr rasch zu öde. Sie braucht keine künstliche Beschäftigung, sondern blüht in ihrer natürlichen Rolle als treue Wächterin voll auf.

Wir haben einen knapp zwei Jahre alten Kuvasz-Rüden aus einer sehr guten Zucht. Zuhause ist er ein absoluter Traum: Er ist extrem sensibel, unheimlich verschmust, freut sich über jeden Besucher und verhält sich unserer jüngeren Hündin gegenüber wie ein echter Gentleman. Unsere große Baustelle ist allerdings seine Nervosität in fremder Umgebung. Sobald er beim Autofahren oder beim Spaziergang andere Hunde sieht, tourt er unheimlich schnell hoch und wird für einen Kuvasz eigentlich viel zu zappelig. Wir haben schon mehrere Hundeschulen und Einzelstunden hinter uns, um dieses Problem in den Griff zu bekommen, aber bisher leider ohne den durchschlagenden Erfolg. Man darf nicht unterschätzen, wie viel Kraft und Geduld so ein sensibler Riese im Alltag fordern kann.
