Relative to other breeds
The Cimarron Uruguayo is a robust working breed; however, there is very little official health testing data available in central databases. Typical large-breed issues such as hip dysplasia (HD) and elbow dysplasia (ED) can occur and should be actively discussed with the breeder before purchasing. Since there are no systematic mandatory health tests in place, buyers must be particularly diligent in assessing the health of the parent dogs themselves.

What matters most
Especially with a Cimarron Uruguayo, choosing the right breeder is the single most important decision you'll make. Serious breeders consistently test the parents for inherited conditions, prioritize healthy early socialization, and stay accountable long after handover. A cheap puppy without health screening tends to become the most expensive dog later on.

The real vibes check
A Cimarron Uruguayo is not a cozy couch-Molosser, but a South American survivor who makes his own decisions when in doubt. If he perceives a situation as threatening, he doesn't ask for permission; he takes action. You will get a loyal bodyguard who would walk through fire for you—provided you prove to him every day that you deserve to lead.
The Cimarron Uruguayo, also known as the Uruguayan Cimarron, is a powerful, medium-sized dog with a strong and muscular build. His expression is intense and alert, reflecting his natural alertness and interest in his surroundings. Its ears are medium-sized, set high and stand erect when alert, otherwise they hang down to the sides of the head. Its short-haired coat is thick and smooth, with a clearly visible brindle color pattern. The Cimarron Uruguayo belongs to FCI Group 2 (Pinschers and Schnauzers - Molossoids - Swiss Mountain Dogs and other breeds).
The Cimarron Uruguayo originally comes from Uruguay, where it was traditionally used as a guard, herding and hunting dog. His name "Cimarron" means "wild" in Spanish or "untamed", which refers to the dogs that were left feral by the Spanish conquerors on the South American continent. These dogs mixed with the local dogs and formed the basis of the Cimarron Uruguayo breed. They were valued for their hardiness and adaptability, which allowed them to survive in the harsh conditions of Uruguay. The breed has been bred over the years to improve its working abilities while maintaining its unique temperament and appearance. The Cimarron Uruguayo was recognized by the F"d"ration Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 2006.
The Cimarrón Uruguayo was used as a guard and protection dog on farms and is known for its robustness and protective instinct.
